Denver’s AEG music venues switch to reusable cup system

r.Cup’s reuse system has been installed at four of the top music venues in Denver: Bluebird Theater, Gothic Theatre, Mission Ballroom, and Ogden Theatre, all owned by AEG Presents.

“A staggering amount of single-use plastic has been diverted from the waste stream and response from patrons has been overwhelmingly positive,” Jake Hiersteiner, VP of Operations for AEG Presents Rocky Mountains, told 9NEWS.

Each week, thousands of cups from these venues are cleaned and sanitized at Denver’s r.Cup wash hub, which is operated by parent company r.World. The cups are then delivered back for reuse up to 1,000 times. With r.Cup’s new sanitizing facility located right in Denver, this innovative program is available for more local venues as well, and it’s proving a great way to stand out with musicians and fans.

“In a high volume, fast-paced environment, it can be difficult to implement meaningful change,” Hiersteiner said to 9NEWS. “This program is clearly hitting the mark.”

r.Cup is also installed at a growing number of entertainment venues nationwide, with new regional wash hubs being installed across the country.
